Sonya has trained and worked with some of the most brilliant minds of psychology, behavioral sciences, and counseling.

Sonya spent over 6 years working with foster youth where she helped counsel and provide mental health services to adolescents who have experienced severe traumas and behavioral challenges. Although working with this population proved too difficult for some, the work came easy for Sonya. Being able to empathize with the youth, she was able to develop personalized plans of action that would help transition them out of the foster care system and into their adult lives. Working with foster youth was when Sonya first realized her passion for helping others relieve personal suffering.

After earning a Master’s degree in Counseling from San Diego State University, Sonya accepted an opportunity of a lifetime. Sonya moved to Spain where she worked alongside the European Union to develop and implement protocols to assist individuals diagnosed with mental illness regain a meaningful quality of life. After Spain, she was fortunate to be offered a clinical fellowship with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs where she had undergone extensive training in psychosocial rehabilitation, psychotherapy, and other evidence-based practices. While at the VA, she helped develop several therapeutic groups for veterans which led her to present her work at the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association conference as well as co-author a published article in the Journal of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.

Through her clinical practices and spiritual experience, Sonya was able to gain clarity of her purpose – to help individuals become self-aware so they can evolve into their truth. After her epiphany of purpose, Sonya decided to become a Life Coach where she gained certification through the Life Coach Training Institute in 2016.

Sonya has made several appearances on the ESPN’s BISTalk radio show in San Diego discussing Mental Wellness and Adolescent Behavior.
